You can use filters to organize your Inbox by sending incoming messages to specific folders.
- Click Options.
- On the left side of the page, click Mail, and then click Custom Filters.
- Click Create New, and then follow the instructions on the page.
- To set up a more detailed filter, click Advanced Filter at the top of the page.
With an advanced filter, you can filter your incoming messages by subject, sender's name, sender's address, or text on the To or Cc lines. You can then narrow your search by choosing to see only those elements that contain, do not contain, start with, end with, or equal specific words.
- Click Options.
- On the left side of the page, click Mail, and then click Custom Filters.
- Select the check box next to the filter you want to change, click Edit, and then make your changes.
- Click Options.
- On the left side of the page, click Mail, and then click Custom Filters.
- Select the check box next to each filter you want to delete, and then click Delete.
Notes
- If you have multiple filters, you can change their order in the filter list. Filter order is important because it controls the sequence in which messages are moved out of your Inbox. To change the filter order, open the Mail tab, and then click Custom Filters. Select the check box next to the filter whose order you want to change, and then click Move Up or Move Down.
- You can create up to 10 custom filters. Once you have created the maximum number of filters, you can only edit existing filters, change filter order, or delete filters. If you subscribe to Hotmail Plus, you can create up to 36 filters. For more information about the subscriptions available to you, visit the subscription information page.
