About Pop-up Guard and blocking pop-up windows
Pop-up Guard is a feature of MSN Toolbar that helps prevent pop-up windows from opening while you browse the Internet.
The Pop-up Guard only blocks pop-up windows that open when you have not taken any action, such as clicking a link.
Pop-up Guard allows one pop-up window to open when you click a link or button.
Pop-up Guard will block these types of pop-up windows from opening automatically:
- Pop-up and pop-under advertising windows
- Windows that open after a page loads
- Windows that open when you leave a site or when you close your browser
Pop-up Guard will allow these types of pop-up windows to open:
- Windows that open from links that you click and that open in new windows
- Pop-up windows from any site on your allow list
- Pop-up windows from an intranet site (when this option is selected)
- A pop-up window that you allow (by pressing and holding the CTRL
key while refreshing the page)
- The Highlight Viewer window
Pop-up Guard does not block these types of windows:
- Instant messaging windows
- Flash or DHTML windows within the browser
- Windows that display error or alert messages
- Windows that open because of spyware (Any software that secretly gathers information through the Internet connection without the user's permission, usually for advertising purposes.) , adware, or other malicious software installed on your computer
Notes
-
When you install software from the Internet, you may be required to allow pop-up windows for the
download site.
-
To prevent conflicts, we recommend that you use only one pop-up blocking program at a time.
